Trees Distance Away is one of the many songs contained in the suite of under the main title, Neurological Madness. Trees was a part of my early solo career. It was fun to play it to audiences that came there specifically to hear you perform. To do solo these days is crazy. Everyone in the place is competing to be seen and heard, and those fucking cell phones. This is the very reason I won't play open mics anymore. The last time I asked the audience to please tone it down and turn of the cell phones, I got called a prick.
You can't tell but this was recorded on a two thousand dollar Studor Revox tape machine. When in Kansas City my friend always wanted to record for his files any and every song I had written up to that time I was visiting. He'd drop some acid and take about an hour setting up microphones and atmosphere. Then he'd turn on the machine as I would sit comfortably in a chair and play. Afterwords he'd play it back thru his Macintosh top dollar stereo and it would sound incredible. Then he'd dub me off a direct copy onto another Revox so I could have a copy. When I'd get these back to wherever I was living at the time, I would die with how horrible the saturation and sound quality was. I never told him that because he was so proud of these tapes, but trying to get them to sound good is nearly impossible. Please over look it and try to get beyond it. These are probably some of the only recordings I have on file of songs from Neurological Madness. I see it like this, you're getting it for free because I want you to have them and I am so lucky now that my friend in those days wanted every song I have ever written. They could be just lost in my vastly shrinking mind.
